Sync for iPhoto App Reviews
Doen’s synchronize at all, only copies a full library to a different location, so if you have 2 Libraries, this tool will only create 2 different files in the backup place, and if you select to just copy the pictures out of the library, then the tool will only duplicate all the files…completely unuseful!
Took a chance — glad I did. Was limping with the old Backup for MobileMe before this — hoping I would never have to try to use it. This is intuitive and easy and does a lot without the bells and whistles. My only wish: a little more feedback that anything is happening (the blue bar stays fixed for a long time wtih no hints…). Nice product and price.
I like to go through yearly and drop my iPhoto libraries onto external drives for backup and in the past used an elaborate script to export files from iPhoto into a directory by year, month and file for access by non-Mac machines. Unfortunately that script no longer worked and rather than reworking it I decided to see what was available on the AppStore. To my delight I found this application and figured I’d give it a try. I am very pleased! There are so many ways this application allows you to build out the directory structure and file names that are output when using the ‘organize files’ option. In addition it has multiple ‘slots’ so I can have all my exports going on at the same time since I have multiple iPhoto libraries. If you organize your photos at all this is an excellent tool to add to your tool belt and well worth it.
I bought the app hoping to make life easier keeping our family iPhoto library the same on 3 computers. There are virtually no instructions, and help takes you to a cryptic web site that starts off talking about “slots”. I was flying blind, and the experience was a miserable failure. I tried to sync a library from one computer to another. The process took 12+ hours over Wifi. When I opened iPhoto on the target computer, the newer photos were not there. I found no information about which version(s) of iPhoto it works with, or whether I need to do something in iPhoto to see the newer photos. I’m on the current version of iPhoto (9.6) and OSX 10.10 on both computers, a Macbook Pro (retina) and a Mac mini. In the end, to update our photos on third computer I relied on a manual method. I just selected each event in iPhoto on the source computer and selected File>Export to create a folder containing the photos on the target computer. Then I imported the photos into iPhoto. The process for a 1500+ photos in about 6 events took less than an hour.
I purchased this app and thought it would be easier to use, but I was mistaken unfortunately. I wish I would have read the reviews, had I done that I would have never purchased it.
I always wanted to take my iPhoto/Photos collection and keep it in sync with a folder structure for backup purposes and in case iPhoto/Photos ever became corrupted (it’s happened before). I knew you can export from iPhoto/Photos but it was a manual process and I would either have to know which changes I made and only export those, or export everything again (over 300gb of photos). So when i found this program i was hoping it would be what i was looking for and it is exactly what i was looking for. I can now setup multiple sync connections and have only the changes sync. If your looking to keep your iPhoto/Photos collection in sync with a file structure, this is the program for you. FYI, its a one way sync, from iPhoto/Photos to your file structure.
